Show Commentary

Another OHP show finishes its run.  This one was a lot of fun for a lot of people, cast and crew included.  We found ourselves amazed at the number of people that were touched by this show.   We were less amazed at how many newcomers were asking at the last performance, about the NEXT OHP show, and what parts were available.   We have a good time, and it is a pleasure to welcome new "members" into the OHP family.  People always ask if, or sometimes assume that we are an exclusive group.   Nothing could be further from the truth.  We ask only that you care about the quality of the show first, and about having a good time while helping others have a good time close behind that primary goal.

If you find yourself loving community theater, the OHP is the place for you.  Our only sorrow is that there are not always parts for everyone who wants to take part.  For those of you who made this show possible, my sincere thanks!   For those of you that were touched by its humor, and its message, thanks for letting us share this experience with you.

If you are looking for pictures from this show.. here is a link to all 100 original shots.   I hope to have a shorter list of photos up soon.

Sometime in January, we'll work on tryouts for the spring production.  Watch this web site for more information.  Have a happy holidays.   Merry Christmas, and may God bless you with this celebration of the birth of his son.

We're rolling into the last week of rehearsals.   The show is looking great.   Not that I've taken the time to tell the cast that yet.  I'm leaving that up to the audiences.  We're still too busy tweaking things to make it even better.

Of course, that means we really NEED you to be there and let all the members of this cast know how great they all are doing.   It's a fun show with a neat story and message for the holiday season.   If you haven't gotten into the Christmas Spirit yet, then this is the perfect way to start.   If you are there already, grab the nearest Scrooge and head over to a performance.  It's sure to make you both feel better!

If you are wondering about a time commitment, worry no more.  This is a short fast paced show sure to keep everyone's interest.  Normally you expect this performance to be close to 90 minutes, and I can see why.  There are lots of scene changes, and lighting changes.  We're working this cast and crew to perfection however.  From lights to set to costumes, they have it working like a fine tuned machine.   The show is rolling in at just over an hour during rehearsals.  Laughter could easily add 10 minutes to that time.  The show is just that funny, and yet, it is also just that touching.

The Matinees are selling well with Sunday filling up fast.  Best seats are for the evening performances, and with the length of the show, it is still an early evening.  Make sure you join us for this soon to be holiday classic!

Time has flown by as we prepare for this show.   Things are coming along very well however, and all of us are falling more and more in love with this wonderful production.   This definitely is a great family event with something for everyone.   If you have ever attended a Christmas Pageant, you know the story, or at least what the story should be!

Only a few rehearsals left for this dedicated group of actors.  With holiday schedules, our rehearsals have been squeezed in to whatever open times we find.   Thus far, weather has cooperated, and we are starting some of the fine tuning process.  We hope to see you there!

Rehearsals have begun, and I must admit, I'm impressed with the reading ability of this cast.  Not to say I didn't hear lots that I want to work on in terms of expression and delivery, but then... I'm a perfectionist, as much of this cast knows, and the rest will find out!

The show had us all laughing as we went through it for the first time.   We're planning the set and thinking about costumes and props.  There is an amazingly short time for us to put this all together with the other conflicts that come up this time of year.

I'm sure you'll find that our hard work will be worth it.   Ticket sales to members and patrons are going fast.   Ticket sales begin on November 9th for the general public.  Don't wait long!

Try-outs Scheduled!

Try-outs are scheduled for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.  We will hold open try-outs on Monday and Thursday October 15th & 18th, 2007 at 7pm on the Elkader Opera House stage.    Materials will be provided.   We will be doing some readings from the show, and singing some well known Christmas carols.

The script calls for 4 men, 6 women, 8 boys & 9 girls of varying ages from 5 on up.   There will be room for chorus as well.  We expect to make rehearsal time as limited, convenient, and productive as possible as we know this can be a busy time of the year.
